Be prepared for the start of class! Just follow the steps below!

1. Get Your NYUCard
Commuter students may have their picture taken and NYUCard printed in person at the NYU Card Center at 383 Lafayette Street on the corner of 4th Street.  When you are on campus on Friday, June 29 for orientation, you can get your card before or after orientation.  The Card Center will be open 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
Residential students who submitted their ID photos online via NYUHome may get their printed NYUCards at the NYU Card Help Desk in the lobby of the Kimmel Center for University Life, 60 Washington Square South, on move-in day.  The Help Desk will be available from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 1.
Residential students who did not submit ID photos online in advance should get their NYUCards in person at the NYU Card Center first thing on Monday morning before class.
All students must show a valid government-issued photo ID in order to get their NYUCards.

2. Set Your Schedule
Residential students must be registered for two credit-bearing courses and one noncredit workshop (College Writing Workshop or Texts and Ideas).  Commuter students must be registered in at least one credit-bearing course.
All students should double-check their course registration on Albert via NYUHome.  It is best for your courses to be set by the start of classes on Monday, July 2.  The last day to add or drop a course on Albert is Sunday, July 1.

3. Get Your Books
Once your schedule is set, you can look up your textbooks online at the NYU Bookstore website.  All textbooks will be available at the NYU Bookstore.
The Bookstore will be open on Friday, July 29 from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. for commuter students on campus for orientation.
The Bookstore will be open on Sunday, July 1 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and residential students may get their books after move-in.

Don't forget!  Students taking College Writing Workshop should select their authors and read a few of the author's essays before the first day of class!  You don't need to read the entire book, just a selection of essays so you can discuss your author on the first day.  Fun weekend reading ahead!  And you do not need to wait to get to campus to get your books. These books are available at any bookstore such as Barnes & Noble or Amazon.com.  Information about the course, including the list of suggested authors/books, is available above under the NYU Precollege Academics page.

4. Map Out Your Schedule
Your course schedule with classroom locations will be listed on Albert.  Map out your class locations on the campus map and get to know where you need to be before class begins!

Sunday is move-in day! Students may move-in beginning at 9:00 a.m.  We ask that all students try to move-in no later than 3:00 p.m.  This will give you enough time to set-up your room and get to know your roommate before student orientation at 5:00 p.m.  All students will be escorted to orientation by their P.A.s.

Directions to Weinstein Hall and Parking
All NYU Precollege students will be living in Weinstein Hall at 5-11 University Place.  Weinstein is located on University Place between Waverly and 8th Streets.  University Place is a one-way street going north, so it is best to approach the building from the south if you are driving.

You will be able to temporarily park your car for unloading only. You will want to unload your stuff as quickly as possible so you do not block traffic and so you can move on and allow other students to drive up.  Families should not leave their cars unattended.
After you have unloaded, you may park in the neighborhood on the street or in a parking garage.  A list of local parking garages is online.

Check-In
Students will be able to check-in while their families unload their cars.  Be sure to bring a valid government-issued photo ID or NYUCard with you.  You will need to show ID in order to get your keys.

Family Member Access
Family members and guests assisting students with move-in can get a guest pass from the Public Safety desk in the Weinstein lobby.  This pass will be valid for access to the building until 5:00 p.m.

A team of staff will be available to help direct you on move-in day.  It will be a busy and fun day!  We look forward to seeing you on campus on Sunday and wish you safe travels to NYU!

The United States Department of Homeland Security requires that all students entering the United States with an F-1 or J-1 visa report their arrival to NYU.  The Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) is holding a check-in workshop to help all international students meet this requirement.  All international students should note the below time and date in their calendars and be sure not to miss check-in!

Mandatory Check-in Workshop
Friday, July 13 at 1:30 pm
Meyer Hall, Room 121

Please visit the OISS check-in website for more information, including what documents to bring and a list of what you need to do prior to check-in.

Precollege Forms
Any student who has NOT already submitted the NYU Precollege forms should do so as soon as possible.  You cannot participate in NYU Precollege if you do not submit forms.  Forms are online in the NYU Precollege Handbook.  All forms should be submitted together as one pdf attached to an email to [email protected] or as one fax to 212-995-4642.
If you have already submitted your forms to the Office of University Programs, great!  You are set and can disregard this reminder!

Student Account Balances
It is a good idea to double check your student account balance on NYUHome before arriving on campus to make sure all charges are paid and your account is settled.  Even if you think you have paid your bill in full, check again!  You want to make sure you haven't accidentally missed a charge.
Instructions on how to view and pay your bill online are available here.  The video is especially helpful!

If you have not already done so, check out the NYU Precollege Events and Activities page for a list of some of the events in which you can participate this summer!

What else do you need to know about NYU Precollege events and activities?
  • Program costs are covered by the program fee all students pay as a part of NYU Precollege
  • Transportation to and from locations and personal expenses (ex. souvenirs) are not included
  • Information and instructions on how to sign up for events are listed on the events page, too!

Precollege Talent Show
Get out your tap shoes and juggling balls!  We will be having a talent show for Precollege, and we want as many participants as possible (that means you!).  If you wish to bring props or materials for an act, don't forget to pack them. That is, just as long as they are not on the list of what not to bring.

Orientation is more than a way to learn more about the program--what will be available to you while on campus and what is expected of you as an NYU summer student--it is a great opportunity to meet your fellow students and the Precollege staff!  We will be covering a great deal of important information, so orientation is mandatory for all NYU Precollege students.  Parents are also welcome but are not required to attend.

The Office of Summer Housing will be emailing residential students with pre-arrival information in the next few days. Keep an eye on your email!  This email will include basic information about check-in on Sunday, July 1, instructions on how you can submit your NYUCard ID photo online via your housing application in NYUHome, and information about room assignments (if available).
Please note that room assignments may change between now and move-in day.  The room assignment you will receive now, and any roommate information that may be included, may not be final.
Wondering what to pack for your room?  A list of what to bring (and what NOT to bring) is included above under the Prior to Arrival page.

Please refer to the NYU Precollege Academics page above for information about registration requirements for residential and commuter students.  All students should double check their course schedules to make sure they are meeting registration requirements. If you have any questions about the requirements or your schedule, please contact the Office of University Programs at [email protected].

**Please Note: Unfortunately, NYU Precollege has no control over waitlists. If you are currently waitlisted for a course, please monitor your registration on NYU Albert.  You will be automatically enrolled in the course and removed from the waitlist if another student drops the course.  It is a good idea to register for a back-up course if you are on a waitlist.  Further information is on the Academics page above.**
