REGISTRATION
Upon admittance to NYU Precollege, participants should have received an email which included their N number, Net ID, and instructions about registering for courses. If you are experiencing trouble registering, please refer to the information below. If our instructions do not answer your questions, please send an e-mail to [email protected] (include your name, N number, and information about the course(s) in question).
Please view the courses that are available to NYU Precollege participants on the Precollege website. Please review our entire course selection- there are some interesting courses that are new to NYU Precollege this year and professors are excited to have you in class! Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. Our office recommends identifying 3-4 courses of interest in case your first choice is full or wait listed when you register. Students may continue to add/drop courses until the end of the first week of NYU Precollege (as long as there is space available).
While identifying the courses you're interested in taking, please record the class number, which is found under click to learn morein the course information in the course list. You will need this number to register for your courses.
Once you are ready to register:
SIGNING UP FOR WAITLISTS
For general information on navigating Albert and registering for courses, please refer to the Albert Registration Help Guide. Pages 10-14 of this document deal with waitlists and swaps. The following are some important things to note regarding the waitlist functionality in Albert.
It is possible to place yourself on the waitlist for a course but not be enrolled into the course if a seats becomes available. The requirements to be moved off the waitlist are as follows:
Always use the swap function when signing up for a waitlisted course. If you do not use the swap functionality in Albert, but choose instead to individually enroll and waitlist yourself into courses, it is possible that you will not be enrolled into a course from the waitlist due to enrolling in more credits than allowed (see item 1 above) or due to a time conflict between the two courses (see item 2 above).
For example, BIOL-UA 4 Human Physiology meets TuWeTh from 9:00am to 11:00am and CLASS-UA 404 meets MoTuWeTh from 9:30am to 11:05pm. If you enrolled in CLASS-UA 404 and then, in a separate enrollment request, waitlisted for BIOL-UA 4, you would not be enrolled into BIOL-UA 4 from the waitlist if a seat became available because the enrollment would cause a time conflict.
Enroll into your alternative selection first. If your primary selection is closed with a waitlist option (it will say “waitlist” on Albert), you should first enroll into your alternate or backup course. Then be sure to use the swap functionality when placing yourself on the waitlist for the course you would prefer if seats become available.
For example, you want to enroll in BIOL-UA 4, but it is closed and there is a waitlist option for the course. Before placing yourself on the waitlist, you should enroll into your alternate choice, in this case CLASS-UA 404. Once you have done this, use the swap function to place yourself on the waitlist for BIOL-UA 4, making certain to specify that you would like to be dropped from CLASS-UA 404 if seats become available in BIOL-UA 4. If seats become available in BIOL-UA 4, you will then automatically be dropped from CLASS-UA 404 and enrolled into BIOL-UA 4.
Placing yourself on a waitlist does not guarantee that you will eventually be able to enroll into a course. We are doing everything we can to help students get into the courses they want, but it is not always possible for us to get enough seats for every Precollege student in every Precollege course. This is, unfortunately, a part of being a college student. As you continue to prepare for the start of the Precollege program, if you are on the waitlist for a course, it may be useful to begin looking at alternate courses. You can view all Precollege courses via our website. If you would like to view only open courses (i.e., those courses with seats currently available), please select “Open” from the “Open/Closed Classes” drop down menu on the right side of the course search screen.

It is possible to place yourself on the waitlist for a course but not be enrolled into the course if a seats becomes available. The requirements to be moved off the waitlist are as follows:
- You will not be enrolled off the waitlist if the enrollment results in you being enrolled in more units (credits) than permitted during the term. The unit limit for Precollege students is 8 credits.
- If the enrollment results in a meeting pattern or time conflict with another class in which you are currently enrolled. In other words, enrolling in the course from the waitlist will result in you being enrolled in two classes that meet at the same time – this is not allowed under any circumstances.
- You do not meet the prerequisite(s) for the course.
Always use the swap function when signing up for a waitlisted course. Here are some additional tips if your first-choice course is currently waitlisted.
- Enroll in another course of interest. These are many great courses available this summer, so explore the full list and find other courses that may be interest to you, or explore something new! You never know - you might discover a new subject of interest by delving into an unexpected course.
- Waitlisting is automatic. This means that Albert will roll the next person on the waitlist into the course if another student drops out and you meet the requirements outlined above. No one - not even the course instructor - can grant you permission to enroll in a course if it has an active waitlist.
- Students cannot sit in on waitlisted courses. Only students enrolled in a course are allowed to attend. This is due to the size of classrooms and the available seats.
